Threatened Species

Threatened Species: The following list includes all mammals which occur in Vietnam and are rated as Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN) or Vulnerable (VU) in the 2004 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals

  • Critically Endangered:
    • Cat Ba Island Golden-headed Langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus).
    • Chapa Pygmy Dormouse (Typhlomys chapensis). (Endemic to Vietnam.)
    • Javan Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus).
    • Kouprey (Bos sauveli).
    • Small-toothed Mole (Euroscaptor parvidens). (Endemic to Vietnam.)
    • Sumatran Rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis).
    • Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey (Rhinopithecus avunculus). (Endemic to Vietnam.)
    • Vietnam Leaf-nosed Bat (Paracoelops megalotis). (Endemic to Vietnam.)
    • White-rumped Black Lemur (Trachypithecus delacouri). (Endemic to Vietnam.)
  • Endangered:
    • Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus).
    • Banteng (Bos javanicus).
    • Black Gibbon (Nomascus concolor). (Previously listed as Hylobates concolor.)
    • Black-shanked Douc Langur (Pygathrix nigripes). 
    • Douc Monkey (Pygathrix nemaeus).
    • Otter Civet (Cynogale bennetti).
    • Particolored Flying Squirrel (Hylopetes alboniger).
    • Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis).
    • Tiger (Panthera tigris).
  • Vulnerable:
    • Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus).
    • Asiatic Golden Cat (Catopuma temminckii). 
    • Assamese Macaque (Macaca assamensis).
    • Back-striped Weasel (Mustela strigidorsa).
    • Bourret's Horseshoe Bat (Rhinolophus paradoxolophus).
    • Buff-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae). (Previously listed as Hylobates gabriellae.)
    • Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa).
    • Dhole (Cuon alpinus).
    • Dugong (Dugong dugon).
    • Eld's Deer (Cervus eldi).
    • Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra).
    • Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus).
    • Francois' Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus francoisi).
    • Gaur (Bos frontalis).
    • Kashmir Cave Bat (Myotis longipes).
